RALEIGH, N.C. (February 23, 2018)Hire Scene, the most robust shift-matching mobile app in the Southeast, is now live with gigs available in the greater Triangle area. The free mobile app is designed to instantly link app users to immediately available, flexible employment opportunities in the hospitality industry.

Founded by North Carolina State University alumni and operating at Centennial Campus, Hire Scene is the only app developed in the Triangle tapping into the rampant progression of the gig economy in the United States. The gig economy is now estimated to be about 34 percent of the workforce and expected to be 43 percent by the year 2020, according to Intuit.

“The modern workforce is evolving in how we choose to live and work. We are seeing growing numbers of professionals and college students gravitating towards contingent employment because of the inherent flexibility it provides,” said Mike Youngblood, president and CEO, Hire Scene. “Hire Scene allows anyone with skills in the hospitality industry to take advantage of the gig economy – making your own schedule to work when you want, where you want.”

After pairing countless app users – from students to teachers to summer beach-goers – with shifts in Wilmington, Hire Scene is expanding its footprint to the Triangle region, with plans to go live across the Carolinas and beyond in the coming years.

The process is simple: create a profile on the Hire Scene app and the team will connect with you to set up a virtual interview and orientation session. Once this process is complete, app users can browse available shifts and receive notifications about job openings in their vicinity. The intuitive app connects app users to event-based hospitality positions such as servers, bartenders, stewards, concessions and more, often filling spots within minutes.

By combining artificial intelligence algorithms, social media and mobile technologies, Hire Scene creates rapid connectivity between venues and app users and allows both parties to mutually rate their experience once jobs are completed. The job-matching technology and rating system is comparable to on-demand car services that have revolutionized individual travel options.

“Traditional employment is designed around the schedule and demand of the company. With Hire Scene, app users define and dictate their own schedules and income with the push of a button,” said Mary Gage, director of the on-demand division, Hire Scene. “The technology enables users to meet their financial and professional goals – whether they are paying off student loans, supplementing their income or saving up for a trip– through work that fits their lifestyles.”

App users with completed orientations are W-2 employees and eligible for benefits, based on local labor laws. They are under no obligation to accept positions and there is no penalty for turning down a job.

Hire Scene is the latest innovation stemming from the Technology Incubator at Centennial Campus, which brings private and university-based entrepreneurs together to activate growth and economic vitality. “NC State’s Centennial Campus is a proving ground for public-private collaboration that drives new ideas,” said Dennis Kekas, associate vice chancellor of partnerships and economic development, NC State University. “Hire Scene is a great example of how our graduates are solving challenges with advanced technologies, embodying the entrepreneurial ‘think and do’ spirit of the university.”
